There are a few surprising items that can be embroidered, under certain conditions. Balsa wood is one of them.
Balsa wood is porous enough to withstand needle pokes if it is properly stabilized on the back. You can make card covers, box covers, plaques, nameplates, etc. with embroidered balsa wood, The embroidery designs must be low density, or the design will cut up the wood. Cardstock embroidery designs and most sketch designs are best for balsa wood embroidery.
My favorite balsa design was a card with embroidered initials in balsa wood for Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture of it, but I’ll add a picture when I make another one.

I’ve been embroidering for about ten years, but decided to pursue it as a business once I felt comfortable in my knowledge of the industry and the techniques.
